Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
The bilateral legal basis in this sphere is still being developed.
During May 9-10, 2014 Qatari capital Doha hosted the annual athletics cup competition "Diamond League". Among the honored guests of the tournament there was a prominent Ukrainian athlete, multiple world record holder and Olympic champion in pole vault Mr.Sergey Bubka.
Between June 17 to June 20 the Ukrainian official delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Mrs.Olesya Ostrovska-Lyuta paid a visit to Qatar. The delegation participated in the meeting of the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. On June 18, 2014 the Head of the Ukrainian delegation visited the Ministry of Culture of Qatar, where hold meeting with Director of the Department for Culture and Arts Mr.Faleh Al-Hajri.
During the recent years the dynamics of the bilateral interaction in the sphere of culture is relatively intensive.
In May, 2015 in Doha there was held an exhibition of paintings of Ukrainian artist Andrii Chernovol.
In June, 2015 in the Katara cultural village , under the patronage of the Embassy of Ukraine in Qatar and with the aim to mark the 71-th anniversary of deportation of Crimean Tatars from the Crimea the premiere of the film "Haytarma" took place.
The exhibition of Ukrainian art commemorated to the 25th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine was held on October 18, 2016 in the capital of Qatar Doha with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine and in cooperation with the Ukrainian art agency New Visions Production. It featured works of more than 10 Ukrainian artists from different regions of Ukraine.
In December, 2016 Adviser on the issues of culture at the Emiri Diwan H.E. Mr. Hamad Al Kawari (currently the Minister of State) paid a working visit to Ukraine, during which he was received by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Culture, Education, Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
Doha on the regular basis hosts the Conference of Interfaith Dialogue. Ukraine is represented at the Conference by the representatives from different religious denominations.
During 2017-2018 the Embassy of Ukraine in Qatar initiated a number of the events dedicated to the commemoration of the 85thanniversary of the tragedy of Holodomor in Ukraine 1932-1933.
Different Ukrainian artistic groups and bands, famous Ukrainian sportsmen visit Qatar on the regular basis, where participate in various events in the sphere of culture and sport competitions.
In February, 2019 the Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Qatar hosted Ukrainian public activist and world traveler Mr.Mykola Podrezan, who visited Qatar within his social project ««Planet Earth. The view from a wheelchair»». During his trip Mykola Podrezan was received by the General Manager of Katara Cultural Village Dr.Khalid Al Sulaiti.
In March, 2019 in the light of 148th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian writer and public activist Lesya Ukrainka as well as ahead of the celebrations dedicated to 205th anniversary of the birth of the greatest Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the State of Qatar donated to the Qatar National Library Collection of poems of Lesya Ukrainka and book of selected works of Taras Shevchenko, translated into Arabic language. The Ambassador also handed over photo chronicle (in English), dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of the 1917-1922 Ukrainian National Revolution.
After launching of the direct air connection between Doha and Kyiv in August 2017 and entering into force of the visa-free regime between Ukraine and Qatar in November 2018 the State of Qatar became on of the popular destinations for Ukrainian tourists and those, who visit Qatar as a transit hub.
