During 29-30 April, 2014 a preparatory conference of the Group of Friends of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum was held in Doha (Qatar).
The event , which was organized under the chairmanship of the High Representative of the UN Secretary General for the Alliance of Civilizations Mr. Nassir Al- Nasser (see photo with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar), was aimed at coordinating actions in the framework of preparations for the 6- th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations , scheduled to be held in the period between 29-30 August,2014 in Bali (Indonesia).

 

At the conference, which was attended by delegations from more than 70 countries and international organizations, joint activities aimed at strengthening cooperation in the areas of education development , support of youth , freedom of media , protecting the rights of migrants and displaced persons were summed up.
The participants unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to peace, inter-religious and interfaith tolerance, cultural diversity, as a prerequisite for the peaceful coexistence of nations and peoples.
The initiative to create the Alliance of Civilizations was declared by Spain in 2004 , it has been also supported by the UN Secretary General Mr.Kofi Annan . The initiative was also reflected the final document of the Summit of world leaders in New York (September 2005) and the resolution of the 60-th session of the UN "Global agenda for Dialogue among Civilizations" .
Ukrainian delegation to the meeting was headed by Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar Mr. Yevhen Mykytenko.
