Between  January 4-9, 2015 in Doha (Qatar) an international tennis tournament ATP Qatar Open with a prize fund of over 1 million USD is under way.
On January 5-th, 2016 the Ukrainian tennis player Illya Marchenko who occupies 98-th place in the world ranking, in three sets won over an experienced Spanish tennis player David Ferrer (6-th place in the tennis hierarchy).
Illya Marchenko will hold his next game against Teimuraz Gabashvili from Russia.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar Mr. Yevhen Mykytenko (pictured) was the first to congratulate  Ilya Marchenko with his victory.
On the same day the second Ukrainian athlete Sergey Stakhovsky unfortunately lost his match against one of the top tennis players in the world Tomas Berdykh from Chech Republic. However, in the doubles together with the Italian tennis player Simone Bolelli our athlete won and qualified to the quarterfinals of the competition.
