According to the President of Bulgaria Mr. R.Plevneliev, "his country is extremely anxious over Russia`s actions in Ukraine", expressing hope that "Russia will withdraw its troops from Crimea". He also added: "I hope that Russia will stop violating the international law and will refrain from the plan of Crimea annexation." According to the Bulgarian president, "if Russia listens to these claims, the relationship between the parties of the conflict will improve. In case of failure to meet them - EU is going to take the necessary measures, which will include imposing of very severe sanctions."
The Bulgarian president Mr. R.Plevneliev told the Qatari newspaper "Al- Raya" on March 12, 2014 while staying in Doha on an official visit that "the EU considers the referendum on the future status of Crimea as illegal." The EU, he said, also believes that "the annexation of the Crimea or accession to Russia will be illegitimate step, contradicting to the international law." He expressed hope that "the situation will not developed for worst-case scenario", calling on all parties "to respect international law for speedy way out from the current crisis."
