On March 8, 2016 in Doha the Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar Mr. Yevhen Mykytenko met the Secretary General of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GEFC)* Dr. Hussein Adeli.

During the talks the two sides considered the possibility of organizing during 2016 with the participation of Ukrainian party different conference events and discussions on the issue of providing energy independence for non-member countries in GEFC and OPEC, as well as the impact of current international political and economic trends on the formation and modernization of energy sectors in such countries.

The parties exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine. GEFC Secretary General Mr. Hussein Adeli said that he hoped Ukraine would soon overcome the difficulties associated with the occupation of the Crimea and the situation in the East of the country and wished the Ukrainian people peace, stability and progress.

* GEFC - Gas Exporting Countries Forum - is an international organization of leading manufacturers and exporters of natural gas. Established on 23 December 2008. Headquarters - Doha, Qatar. Forum members are 19 countries, 12 of which - permanent members, 7 - observers. The objectives of the Forum:

- development of mutual understanding, acceptance of dialogue between producers, consumers, governments and industries related to energy;
- providing a basis for research and exchange of experience;
- creating sustainable and transparent energy market.
