On September 5-th, 2017 Charge d`Affairs of the Embassy of Ukraine to the State of Qatar a.i. Mr.Maksym Subkh took part in the opening ceremony of the largest Qatari port “Hamad” located 70 km south of Doha.

At the inauguration of the port, held in the presence of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Al Thani and the Prime Minister, Interior Minister of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani, the Minister of Transport of Qatar, Mr. Jasim Al-Sulayti In his welcoming remarks briefed the audience on the main statistics that characterize this modern transport and logistics facility, which is considered one of the largest in the Middle East.

The area of the newly built “Hamad” Marine Terminal is 28.5 square km, the length of the fairway is 700 m, and the depth is 17 m, which makes it capable of receiving vessels of any size and capacity. The port can handle up to 1.7 million containers annually. It is also equipped with silo grains with capacity up to 1 million tons, as well as hangars for storing cars in the amount of up to 500 thousand units at a time.

In the port, according to the head of the Ministry of Transport of Qatar, there is a sufficient number of warehouses, where food products can be stored, which will be enough to feed 3 million people for two years.

It is noted that in July this year the port has processed 49 thousand containers, processed 80 thousand tons of food, 5 thousand cars, 74 thousand units of cattle, as well as about 8 thousand tons of construction materials.

The cost of the project, which was completed 6 months earlier than expected, reached $ 7.5 billion. USD.

The event was attended by politicians, government officials, leading businessmen, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar, members of the diplomatic corps, journalists.
