On February 29, 2020 the official ceremony of signing of the agreement between the USA and Taliban regarding bringing peace to Afghanistan took place in the State of Qatar. Document was signed by US Special Representative for Afghan issues Zalmay Khalilzad and one of the Taliban’s top political leaders Abdul Ghani Baradar.
The ceremony was attended by US State Secretary Mike Pompeo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammad Al Thani and a number of foreign ministers.
At the invitation of Qatari side, Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar Andrii Kuzmenko participated as a guest in the ceremony together with the diplomatic corps accredited in the state.
The Ambassador of Ukraine held a brief conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu on the sidelines of the conference. H.E.Andrii Kuzmenko drew attention of the Turkish Foreign Minister to the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine related to the condolences to the Turkish side, which has lost its soldiers due to the escalation of the situation in Syrian province Idlib because of Assad’s regime actions supported by Russian Federation.
In this regard, Ukrainian Ambassador stressed on the Turkey’s support for Ukraine. Mevlut Cavusogly, for his part, underlined that his country will continue to render support for Ukraine in its struggle for independence and territorial integrity.
