As part of his regional tour, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid a visit to the State of Qatar on 28–29 March 2026.
In Doha, the President held talks with H.H. the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The parties discussed the security situation in the region as well as further steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a 10-year intergovernmental agreement on defence cooperation, establishing a long-term framework for strategic partnership between Ukraine and Qatar.
The agreement provides for the development of joint projects in the defence industry, co-production, technological cooperation, as well as exchange of expertise and training. It also opens prospects for attracting investment and concluding long-term contracts.
Particular attention during the discussions was paid to countering modern threats, including missile strikes and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as strengthening the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure.
President Zelenskyy informed the Qatari side about the current security situation in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression and stressed the importance of further strengthening air defence capabilities.
As part of the visit, the President also met with Ukrainian experts working in Qatar. They have already conducted an assessment of the security environment and airspace protection capabilities and developed practical solutions to enhance protection.
The Qatari side highly appreciated the level of Ukrainian expertise and the practical contribution of Ukrainian specialists to strengthening security.
The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in developing a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership aimed at enhancing security, stability, and protection of lives both in Ukraine and in the region.
The visit of the President of Ukraine to the State of Qatar marked an important milestone in bilateral relations and demonstrated Ukraine’s growing role as a reliable security partner in the Middle East.
