During the event , which was attended by qatari senior officials, the Emir of the State Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani delivered a speech, in which he congratulated the members of the Advisory Board with the beginning of the new parliamentary season and wished the deputies success in implementing large-scale state programs identified in the " Qatar -2030 vision ." He noted Qatar`s strong performance in international indices e.g. the UN Human Development Index, having  welcomed the status of Qatar as one of the top 20 countries in the world in terms of economic competitiveness .

Touching on the international agenda, the Emir of Qatar criticized Arab countries for the lack of activity in promoting the interests of the Palestinian people.

In his speech , the Head of “Shura” Council Mr.Mohammad Al- Khulaifi , in particular, praised foreign policy initiatives of the Qatari leadership during the events of the so-called " Arab Spring ." Speaking about the Palestinian perspective , the speaker strongly condemned the Israeli actions against the Palestinian population , including continued blockade of the Gaza Strip. In addition, Mohammed Al- Khulaifi on behalf of the Advisory Council expressed solidarity with the Syrian people in their struggle for freedom and the right to a decent life. He also expressed hope for the restoration of stability and peace in Egypt that " will protect the gains of the revolution of the 25-th of January ".

Тhe Qatari head of parliament stressed the importance of taking all proper steps for the success of the next 34-th Summit of leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council , scheduled for December 2013 in Kuwait .
